Description

Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C 40 w

The Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C 40 w (article code BH04402) is a combined UV-C and copper ionisation system for residential pools of around 35 to 40 m³.
By treating the water with germicidal UV-C light and a controlled copper ion dose, it significantly reduces the amount of chlorine needed while keeping the
water clear, fresh and comfortably soft for swimmers.

How the Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C works

Inside the stainless steel reactor, a 40 w low pressure UV-C lamp irradiates the passing water and inactivates bacteria, viruses and algae spores.
At the same time, a built in copper ionisation cell releases a very low, controlled concentration of copper ions into the water. These copper ions provide a
long lasting residual disinfecting effect in the pool, so the free chlorine level can be reduced compared with a traditional system.

While many ionisers dose around 2 ppm of copper, the Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C is designed to work at about 0.7 ppm, which is sufficient to maintain
disinfection when combined with UV-C treatment while keeping copper concentration within recommended limits for pool water. [oai_citation:0‡Speck Pumps](https://www.speck-pumps.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Blue-Lagoon-Copper-Ionizer-UV-C_Operation.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com)

Applications and pool types

The Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C 40 w is designed for domestic pools where owners want to reduce combined chlorine and typical pool smells while keeping
a high level of disinfection. It can be used with sand filters or cartridge filters and can work alongside manual or automatic dosing systems.

  • In ground and above ground pools with a closed filtration circuit.
  • Chlorinated pools where UV-C and copper support a lower free chlorine set point.
  • Pools with frequent use where eye irritation and chloramine odours should be minimised.
  • Installations looking for an alternative to high chlorine concentrations without losing safety.

Installation guidelines

The unit is typically installed in the return line after the filter and before any heater or heat pump. This ensures that filtered water is treated by UV-C
and ionisation before it returns to the pool.

  • Install the reactor horizontally in a dry, frost free technical room with sufficient space for lamp and quartz sleeve maintenance.
  • Use the supplied adapters to connect to 63 mm or 50 mm PVC pipe or 1½” threaded fittings, following the marked flow direction.
  • Mount the housing on the wall or a support frame so that the weight is not carried by the pipework alone.
  • Connect the electrical supply to a protected, earthed circuit fitted with residual current protection.
  • Place the control for the copper ionisation where it is easily accessible so the output can be adjusted according to test results.

Operation, adjustment and maintenance

Once installed, the Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C operates when the filtration pump is running. The UV-C lamp switches on automatically and the ionisation
cell doses copper according to the selected setting. Regular water testing ensures that copper stays at the target level and that the residual disinfectant
level is within the recommended range.

  • Test the water at least every two weeks for copper concentration and disinfectant level and adjust the ioniser setting if necessary. [oai_citation:3‡Speck Pumps](https://www.speck-pumps.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Blue-Lagoon-Copper-Ionizer-UV-C_Operation.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com)
  • Replace the UV-C lamp after approximately 9,000 operating hours, even if it still lights, because UV output declines over time.
  • Clean or descale the quartz sleeve periodically to maintain high UV-C transmission, especially in hard water areas.
  • Inspect the hydraulic connections and O-rings at the start of each season and renew seals if there are signs of leakage or ageing.
  • Always switch off the power and close isolation valves before opening the UV-C housing for service work.

With correct installation, regular testing and timely lamp and sleeve maintenance, the Blue Lagoon copper ionizer UV-C 40 w offers a stable, low maintenance
disinfection solution that supports clear water and more comfortable bathing conditions in residential pools.
